Piazza D’Italia brings the best of Italy to Washington, DC, in an exhibition that takes place in conjunction with NIAF’s Annual Convention and Gala. Piazza D’Italia showcases some of the best of Italian goods, products and services, with vendors from all over the country and even straight from Italy.
In the second annual Piazza d’Italia, attendees had the opportunity to sample fresh, hand-made mozzarella cheese; taste a wide variety of wines; try some authentic gelato; experience a new type of espresso coffee; and choose from a variety of salami, cheeses, pasta and sauces, olive oil, and hors d’oeuvres from well- known national and international distributors. Piazza D’Italia also included informational booths about Italian language and education, fashion, humanitarian efforts, social networks, political groups, and travel agencies.
Also featured was an Italian-American Book Pavilion, with about a dozen Italian-American authors and publications represented. Types of books ranged from children’s literature to cuisine to historical fiction. Some authors were on hand in person to sell and personally autograph their books.
Attendees were also treated to special presentations - a cooking demonstration from Filippo and the Chef, featuring Tony Lo Bianco, Deanna Martin, Jerry Vale and Vince Ferragamo; a stunning performance by soprano Giorgia Fumanti; a formal wine tasting by Luca Maroni; and a how-to demonstration by Paciugo Fine Italian Gelato. There was also the chance to enter to win a raffle for stay at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini and Ducati all had vehicles on display for people to explore.
