The Universality of Italian Heritage Curriculum

The National Italian American Foundation (NIAF) welcomes you and thanks you for your interest in The Universality of Italian Heritage Curriculum*.
The NIAF has partnered with the New Jersey Italian and Italian American Heritage Commission (NJIIAHC), in distributing The Universality of Italian Heritage Curriculum, a 28 lesson plan with supplemental materials for grades K-12. The series covers a wide array of topics including Cicero, Renaissance Art, Aida, and Romulus and Remus. The lesson plans are designed to be educationally stimulating and rewarding for teachers, students, and the entire community. The lesson plans, materials, and a Teacher Training Manual are available online for easy integration in everyday classroom activities.
Also available on this site is the AMICIZIA (Friendship) Project, a complementary component to the Curriculum. This program provides opportunities for students in the United States to correspond with their counterparts in Italy.
The Universality of Italian Heritage Curriculum was developed by the Curriculum Development Committee of the NJIIAHC. Lesson plans were developed by professional educators in conjunction with the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) and meet all DOE Core Curriculum Content Standards. While the NJIIHC is distributing the curriculum in the State of New Jersey, NIAF will be distributing the curriculum nationwide through its website or demo DVDs through the mail. The curriculum is impressive in that it is neither ethnocentric nor chauvinistic but aims to demonstrate the presence and influence of Italian and Italian American heritage and culture as an integral part of the development of American Western and world wide civilization that all can learn from.
